A total of 300 LAPTOPS (31/10/2022 & 14/01/2023 – 150 Laptops each phase) were distributed amongst under privileged students, who are into higher education. This activity was planned and executed by SEWA Kolkata under the aegis of National Commission for Scheduled Castes and with monetary support from the CSR fund of SBI.
GENERAL INSURANCE FOR COUNCIL'S MEMBERS
All the Members of SEWA Kolkata have been covered under Personal Accident Insurance for an amount of Rupees two lakh only (₹2 lakh). The entire cost towards premium is borne by SEWA Kolkata. It is a highly impactful initiative, which has elements to support a distressed family is a worst scenario.
On the occasion of 69th Bank Day (01/7/2024) SEWA Kolkata SBI Council donated Fruits,Baby Foods and Grocery Items to Siliguri Bhawna Society , Some basic Ration and Essential Items also given to North Sikkim Mangan Dist.At East Calcutta National School near Bagmari Br. Area 5 celling fan donated for students,planted trees for a greener environment at Ashoknagar Unit,and also Durgapur Module,Bidhannagar Module also done Social Work at there place .
Family of a Member of SEWA Kolkata, who die in harness, is provided with a onetime non-refundable monetary support of Rupees Fifty thousand only (Rs 50,000). This initiative also supports a distressed family at a critical time.
In the northern part of the Circle, a few Tea-Estates were closed for a long time. The workers there were struggling for food with little respite. We from SEWA Kolkata provided food items to them and new garments to cover their body. This particular initiative may not sound big but it is one of the most impactful social welfare activities in the history of SEWA Kolkata. It prevented many from starvation and let many to come out of their home in clothes after a long time. Another welfare program i.e 1000 blankets had been distributed at remote area of Midnapore. These initiatives were covered by mainstream media houses.
"According to the SC/ST Act, the protection is provided from social disabilities such as a denial of access to certain places and to use a customary passage, personal atrocities like forceful drinking or eating of inedible food sexual exploitation, injury etc, atrocities affecting properties, malicious prosecution, political disabilities and economic exploitation.
"An Act to prevent the commission of offences of atrocities against the members of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes, to provide for Special Courts for the trial of such offences and for the relief and rehabilitation of the victims of such offences and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
Every year on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti Blood Donation Camps are organised in different parts of the Circle. These camps are arranged in the searching summer season when most of the Blood Banks go dry. There is huge enthusiasm amongst our Members for Blood Donation and they religiously take part every year. Through this noble initiative SEWA Kolkata has helped save lives.
